Pancreas Panel Plus helps screen deeper into your pancreas wellbeing, Problems with the pancreas can lead to Pancreatitis.
This panel includes: Amylase, Lipase, Insulin, and C-Peptide.
The tests measure the amount of these enzymes circulating in your bloodstream. Blood amylase or lipase levels are typically elevated from normal level during pancreatitis.
Preparation: No preparation is needed for this test.
Amylase Test measures the amount of Amylase enzymes in the blood.
Amylase is an enzyme produced by the Pancreas and the Salivary Glands. Amylase is one of several enzymes that helps digest proteins, fats and carbohydrates. In the event of pancreatitis (Inflammation of the Pancreas) or Mumps (Inflammation of Salivary Glands) the levels of Amylase rise, thus it is a very important test to confirm these ailments.
Lipase Test measures the amount of the Lipase enzyme in the blood. Lipase is an enzyme that is made by your pancreas. It helps your body digest fats.
Higher levels of Lipase may mean you have a problem with your pancreas. Most often this means acute pancreatitis, or sudden inflammation of the pancreas.
The normal concentration of Lipase in the blood is very low, when there is a disruption of the pancreatic function due to pancreatitis (Inflammation of the pancreas) or other disorders the pancreas will produce these enzymes in elevated quantities.
Insulin Blood Test helps track insulin levels in the blood and can help assess insulin resistance.
The lack of insulin causes the level of sugar in your blood to become abnormally high, too much sugar in your blood can cause many problems including life-threatening, like diabetes, if not treated.
The abnormal production of insulin can be caused by certain disorders such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and other carbohydrate metabolic processes. Too much insulin in the blood may cause low levels of sugar in the blood (Hypoglycemia) which causes other types of disorders.
C-Peptide test helps evaluate insulin levels in people taking insulin medications to treat diabetes.
C-Peptide is an aminoacid chain that is released when the pancreas produces insulin so it is an excellent marker for insulin levels produced by the body.
This test is not used to diagnose diabetes, but it can give an accurate reading to treat it, it also tells the difference between the insulin produced by your body and the one you take.
