Glucose Tolerance Test, 5 specimens | GTT Blood Test

The Glucose Tolerance Test or GTT Blood Test, 5 Specimens Test is suggested as a follow up test to an elevated blood glucose and to diagnose diabetes.

A fasting blood is collected, then patient drinks a load of glucose and diagnosis of diabetes is made based on the amount of glucose in blood after a 2 hour waiting period, this is followed by more glucose tests performed at specific intervals of time to track glucose levels over time.

This test involves five blood draws, is conducted over the course of few hours, and, in general, requires the person taking the test to remain in the lab for the entire duration of the test.

Preparation: Patient should fast 12 – 14 hours before collection of first specimen.
