Iron, Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) and Ferritin Test
Iron TIBC and Ferritin Test measure iron levels in your blood.
Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) is a blood test that looks if you have too much or too little iron in your blood. Iron moves through the blood attached to a protein called transferrin. This test helps you know how well that protein can carry iron in your blood.
Iron is an essential mineral needed in the blood to transport oxygen throughout your body. If iron levels are too low this can result in anemia (decreased red blood cells).
Preparation: Fasting is advisable 8 hours before the test (no food or drink except water).
