Reducing Substances Stool Test is a stool sample test used to diagnose lactose intolerance (and some rare metabolic abnormalities). Lactose intolerance can be caused by a prolonged or severe episode of viral gastroenteritis. Aides in determining the underlying cause of diarrhea.

This Reduced Subtances Test is recommended to diagnose abnormalities in the carbohydrate metabolism such as sucrose and lactose. The unabsorbed sugars in stool are measured as reducing substances.

Preparation: No fasting or special preparation for this test is needed.
